Track Bulletin  (2/24/10)
Attention  Track Coaches and Parents of 5th Graders and those Families New to the Track Program
There is a mandatory track meeting in the large conference room in St. Joan of Arc’s Parish Center on Tuesday, March 2.
Coaches:  Please arrive at 7pm.

Parents that need to attend this meeting are all 5th grade parents and those families new to the track program.  Please arrive at 8pm.
Each meeting should last about an hour or less.
If you  are a veteran of track, you do not need to attend, unless you need a refresher course or have any questions!  Please keep watch through the SJA blasts, blog and emails of when the volunteer duties are online for signup.

Sports

The St. Joan of Arc Athletic Association is composed of all of the volunteer coaches and moderators who conduct the Interscholastic Sports Programs at St. Joan of Arc School.

The purpose of the St. Joan of Arc Athletic Association is to provide 5th, thru  8th grade students of St. Joan of Arc School with interscholastic sports programs in which everyone can participate without cost to the school or parish. All children who try out will have the opportunity to participate.

The St. Joan of Arc Athletic Association offers the following sports:

Cheerleading
5th and 6th grade girls cheer at JV football games.  7th and 8th grade girls cheer at varsity football games and 7th and 8th grade boys basketball games.  Sign up is in May for the following season.

Cross Country
St. Joan of Arc School is a member of the Suburban Parochial Cross Country League.  The league website is http://www.s-p-l.org/index.html  We have boys and girls teams for 5th, 6th, 7th and 8th grade.  Sign up is in May and the cross country season runs from mid August to early October.

Football
St. Joan of Arc School is a member of the Suburban Parochial Football League.  The league website is http://www.spfl.org/index.asp  We have a JV team for 5th and 6th grade boys and a varsity team for 7th and 8th grade boys.  Sign up is in spring and the football season runs from mid August thru October.

Volleyball
St. Joan of Arc School is a member of the DuPage Parochial League Volleyball Conference.  We have boys and girls teams for 5th, 6th, 7th and 8th grade.  Sign up is in May and the volleyball season runs from mid August to early November.

Basketball
St. Joan of Arc School is a member of the DuPage Parochial League Basketball Conference.  We have boys and girls teams for 5th, 6th, 7th and 8th grade.  Sign up is in September and the basketball season runs from early November to mid March.

Track
St. Joan of Arc School is a member of the Suburban Track and Field League.  The league website is http://www.s-p-l.org/index.html  We have boys and girls teams for 5th, 6th, 7th and 8th grade.  Sign up is in March and the track season runs from April to May.

Track season is just around the corner! Track benefits our children in many ways:
· Participation in track gives a child a higher level of self esteem and a more positive outlook on life.
· It teaches your child teamwork, goal-setting, and the pursuit of excellence
· They learn how to deal with failures and how it feels to be successful
· They make bonding friendships.
· They improve their skills, not only in track, but in other sports as well
· Children who participate in track perform routine physical activity that keeps them healthy
· The athletic child performs better in school.
· They learn and understand track, all while they are having FUN!!

Fees, Medical Release and Physical
The cost to participate is $75 for one student and a maximum of $100 for a family and this fee covers participation in all sports.  Football has an additional fee.

Athletes must have an emergency medical release and waiver on file along with documentation of a physical less than one year old in order to participate.

Coaching
Coaches must have at least a general knowledge of the sport he/she is coaching.  Commitment of time and effort is required. The individual must be available for practices and games.  The person must be of good moral character and be recognized within the community as a positive role model for children, exhibiting exemplary behavior at all times with an emphasis on sportsmanship.

Individuals interested in coaching must complete a coaching application, submit a background check, take the Protecting God’s Children training, and sign an
acknowledgment form indicating they have reviewed a copy of The Pastoral Policy Regarding Sexual Abuse of Minors (Revised July 1, 2008) and The Standards of Behavior for Those Working with Minors.

The President/Athletic Director is responsible for selecting all coaches based on recommendations of the Athletic Association Executive Committee and subject to the approval of the Principal and Pastor.
