POTW 8
Mr. Brown, Mr. Green and Mr. Black met for lunch. One man wore a brown tie, one a green tie, and one a black tie. “Have you noticed”, said the man with the green tie, “that although our ties have colors that match our names, not one of us is wearing a tie that matches his own name?” “By golly you’re right!” exclaimed Mr. Brown. What color tie was each man wearing?
POTW 7
Miles was peeling potatoes for the big Thanksgiving dinner. He can peel 2 every minute. After he had worked for 25 minutes, his wife, Prudence realized that he would never finish all the potatoes in time for dinner, so she decided to help him. She is faster than Miles and can peel 3 potatoes every minute. They finished in time for dinner, and the two of them peeled exactly 400 potatoes. How much time did each perosn spend peeling potatoes?
POTW 6
A recipe for cooking a turkey states to allow 20 minutes for each pound of turkey and to add 5 minutes per pound if the turkey is stuffed. Our turkey weighs 16 pounds and will be stuffed. To have dinner at 2:00 in the afternoon, what time does the turkey need to go in the oven? Allow 1/2 hour for cooling and carving.
Have a wonderful week!

Hints from the Lisle Police Department
Closed Published by Mrs. J. Connell (Tech) November 14th, 2008 in Announcements. •
Tell your children that, “Strangers mean danger”. Ifsomeone stops next to them in a car, tell them to run away toward the rear ofthe car since backing up fast is difficult.
•
Ifyoungsters are on a bike, they should hold it between themselves and the abductors car. Ifthey are pulled into a car, they should jump into the backseat as soon as possible and try to escape through the window.
•
Develop code words for anyone you trust to pick up your children and teach your little ones the code. Tell them not to ride or go with anyone who doesn’t know the code.
•
Know the places your children play, learn about their friends and friends’ familiesespecially
before they go to people’s homes to play.
•
Show children safe places in your neighborhood to run to ifthey feel threatened the
home of a trusted friend, the local police station or firehouse.
•
Tell children to trust their instincts. “Ifthey think something’s wrong with someone they meet, they should run away.”
•
Warn children not to fall for common lures such as: needing help fmding a lost puppy. Some molesters tell youngsters they are cute and want to take their picture, or that they have a toy or candy for them. When children hear these approaches from a stranger, they should run fast to a safe place.
•
Ifkids get lost while shopping they should go to the nearest security guard or cashier. DO NOT ASK A SHOPPER THEY DON’T KNOW AND DO NOT GO INTO THE PARKING LOT TO SEARCH FOR YOU.
•
Children can make a potential abductor panic and flee by screaming at the top of their lungs, “He’s kidnapping me!” Or “Fire” will quickly bring attention to the attempted abduction.
•
Tell children to walk on sidewalks, as far away from the curb as possible against the flow oftraffic so they can see who is approaching. That will make it more difficult for them to be surprised by a driver and quickly snatched.
•
Never let your little children use a public restroom by themselves.
•
Warn older children never to hitchhike.
•
Avoid putting your children’s names externally on their garments and possessions.
•
For DNA purposes, keep a lock of your child’s hair.
•
Prepare your children well-these abductors and predators are anywhere and it can happen anywhere.

Dear Parent/Guardian,
We recently received information from our local police department that in Downers Grove, Warrenville, and Wheaton there have been four reported attempted child abductions within the last few weeks. None of these incidents occurred in the Lisle 202 area. In discussions with the Lisle police department, it was noted that although there were several attempted child abductions in a short period of time, none of the vehicles or suspect descriptions led the Police to believe it is the same person. The suspects were described as male and ranged in ages between 20-60 years old. The vehicles used in the attempted abductions were a black Volvo SUV/Crossover, a small black four door vehicle, a turquoise four door vehicle, and an older blue/green vehicle. These attempted abductions should be taken seriously. Currently, there are no suspects and no one is in custody.
However, it is always important for parents to talk to their children about unscrupulous behavior and dangerous situations.
if you or your child sees anything you believe to be suspicious, please call the Lisle Police Department.
This week in Religion class we are talking about making good choices. The children drew themselves making a good choice.
This should be coming home in the take home folders any day now. In creative writing we will be writing about how to cook a turkey. Each child is making a turkey on what they are thankful for. Those will be on display at parent teacher conferences.
Enjoy the weekend!
Ms Coduto
Good Morning,
Mrs. Greyson will be visiting our class next week to begin discussion about the Sacrament of Reconciliation in preparation for the reception of it in January. I hope you have started your preparation at home. Mrs. Greyson will be interviewing every child who wishes to receive Reconciliation in December. The book you are working on at home with your child must be finished by that time.
I am looking forward to meeting with all of you at conference time. It is always a pleasure to talk with you about your child and the progress they are making in second grade.
If your child has not brought in a magazine please send one in on Monaday. We will be using them next week.
Thank you for your continued support in your child’s education.
