Kindergarten News

This week in the Gospel Jesus takes Peter, John and James to the mountain top. There, Jesus’ appearance changes and He begins to speak to Moses and Elijah. Then, God the Father speaks to tell Jesus’ companions, “This is my chosen Son; listen to him.” Do we listen to what Jesus has to say?

In Religion, we are continuing our daily Lenten Prayer Service. We are also talking about the Stations of the Cross.

In math, we are continuing our unit on money and time. We will emphasize more about time this week. We have begun to learn the song “The Hands on the Clock”. At home, you may wish to continue emphasizing money. Have the children identify the coins in their piggy banks. Have them sort the coins. Have the children pick the coins up to feel them. They can feel the edges of the coins. The children should tell you the name of the coin and how much it is worth. The chants we have used are:

Penny, penny
Easy spent,
Copper brown
And worth one cent.

Nickel, nickel
Thick and fat.
You’re worth five.
I know that!

Dime, dime
Little and thin,
Shiny silver
You’re worth ten.

Quarter, quarter
Big and bold,
You’re worth twenty-five
I’m told!

Our high frequency words this week are this, would, and my.

In computers, we have been emphasizing practicing our skills in both math and language arts. This always follows a few minutes of keyboard practice. At home, you can allow your child to practice typing in any word program you may have. They love to see what they have typed. They also love to read it to you!

Remember we have school only Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday this week.

We have many half pairs of mittens and gloves down in Kindergarten. These don’t have the owner’s name. Are you missing any?

There is an Open House on Tuesday evening, March 2, for anyone wanting to come and see our Preschool and Kindergarten. Please call the office to let them know you are interested, so we can plan for your coming. The number is 630-969-1732. If you know of someone who may be interested in attending Saint Joan of Arc this coming school year, this would be a good time to have them come and see the school. We can answer many of the questions they may have about the school. We would love to see you there. Sister Carolyn will begin our evening. Each of the teachers will present something on sections of our curriculum. You will have an opportunity to view more of our curriculum and activities down in the classrooms.

Enjoy the week!
