2A TODAY FEBRUARY 19

As always, second grade is a busy place. We have been focusing on writing in Language Arts. You will be seeing a lot more writing coming home. We are stressing that the children answer questions in complete sentences and extend their responses to more than two or three words. We are also focusing on handwriting. The children have slipped into some bad habits in their penmanship because they are in too much of a hurry to finish the task. The same is true for spelling/and phonics in their writing. I am encouraging themto sound words out and to recall phonics rules. Please review the work that comes home and note the progress your child is making in their writing and please praise good penmanship and neat work.
In math we are concentrating on learning addition and math facts through 20. Many of the children do not have these facts committed to memory yet. Please work with your child with flash cards everyday for ten minutes. It will make a big difference.
Monday Feb. 22 the second graders will have the opportunity to receive Reconciliation. They are excited to be going on their own.
Please send in on box of Kleenex and a glue stick with your child. It has been a VERY “runny nose” season.
