I hope everyone enjoyed their long weekend!  This week we will be getting ready for Lent!  On Tuesday afternoon the first grade will be making sacrifice beads.  Encourage your first grader to use the beads throughout Lent.  They will remind us of the Jesus’ sacrifice for us.  Wednesday we will be attending Ash Wednesday Mass at 10:00.  In religion this week we will focus on Lent and what it is all about.

In math both groups are working on fractions and probability.  We have focused a lot on the terms certain, probable and impossible.  I expect that by the end of the week both the blue group and the orange group will have completed the Unit 3 test.  The next chapter focuses on place value and numbers to 100.  Please continue to practice addition facts to 12.

In Social Studies we will be discussing why people move.  We will share stories and then spend time comparing moving long ago to what it is like to move today.

We had a short week last week  and there was several interruptions to our reading lessons.  We also have a short week this week and so we will not be starting a new story.  This means one important thing—NO SPELLING this week!  We will continue to focus on the same concepts as last week!  Enjoy a free week!

First grade will begin working on personal narratives during writing time.  Please send in photograph from an important event in your child’s life.  Your child needs to have firsthand knowledge and memories of the event.  It could be a recent birthday, Christmas, family event or vacation.  I ask you to talk with your child about the event and help him/her think of some things from the beginning of the event, the middle and the end.  Your child will use this picture as a springboard for a writing project and you will NOT get the picture back.  Please send the picture in as soon as possible and thank you for your help in making this writing project a success!

Hope you have a great week!  Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns!
