3A Week of February 16 Ms. Brown

Religion: This week our focus will be on the season of Lent so no test this week. We will attend mass on Wednesday of this week for Ash Wednesday.
English: We will continue to work in Unit 5. This week writing abbreviations and book titles correctly. In writing we will work on What Makes Me Smile.
Science: Our focus this week is the Moon; what are the phases of the Moon; what is it like on the Moon, and what are lunar and solar eclipses. We will simulate the phases of the Moon and solar and lunar eclipses in our classroom. We will also view a video called All About the Moon. We will have a Moon phases quiz on Monday, February 22.
Math: This week we will finish up Chapter 11 and learning the rest of our basic division facts. We will practice the 7’s, 8’s, and 9’s this week as well as continue with practicing our extended response problem solving skills. Most of the children are doing very well with their basic multiplication and division facts. Practice at home every night for 10-15 minutes is necessary for mastery of the basic facts. We will take the Chapter 11 test on Friday, February 19.
Reading: For the Illustrators this week is a review week. They will read J.J’s Big Day which is a short Time For Kids nonfiction piece, finish up the unit, and take a unit test on Friday, February 19. The Authors will read Do Animals Think? and take the story quiz as usual on Friday. The Publishers are beginning a new book this week. They will not begin a new story until next week. We will spend this week at the beginning of this book reading some interesting articles, skill building, and working on related comprehension and writing strategies. The Illustrators and Authors will have a Spelllng test on Friday.
Accelerated Reader: On Wednesday, February 24 mid term progress reports will come home. The number of passed quizzes will be listed on the report. Hopefully everyone will be halfway to their accelerated reader goal.
