=========================================

SMART BOARD:   Our 4A board arrived a week ago and students are excited.  Each morning we have an artist of the day before school starts.  They are having fun teaching me about many of the buttons.  Soon our tower will be installed and I will be able to use it from any place in the room.  So far we have used it for taking notes, doing math problems, and projecting relevant internet web sites (e.g. image of the incorrupt body of Bernadette of Lourdes)   A special thank you to the government for the stimulus money given to the SLP program (for students needing extra help in different subjects)  grant that made it possible to purchase this.    All students are benefiting from this motivational technology!

.
RELIGION:   We take a break from the text and study the virtues and sufferings of St. Joseph of Cupertino.  He is a very, very interesting character.  Many considered him slow-witted having a child-like innocence.   He is know as the “Flying Saint or the Reluctant Saint.“   Yes, he really did fly!  Our activities include some listening exercises and a video.  Did you know there is a famous city in California - Silicon Valley area named after him?  These activities reinforce this year’s  SJA theme - “We are called to be Saints.”

.

SOCIAL STUDIES:  Must bring colored pencils/crayons for Tuesday’s in-class only map activity.  Begin Lewis and Clark mini-unit, a favorite of the students.  This information is NOT in the textbook.  Having read the diaries of Lewis and Clark, I have many many insights to share with the students.  Our focus this week is understanding why the Louisiana Purchase led to settlers moving west.
.

SCIENCE:   The children are so excited researching their endangered animal.  This week we continue reading our resources and recording notes about description, habitat, food, why endangered, interesting facts etc. on the note cards.  This is in-class activity only.  Absent students will have to arrange with me when to make-up time before school.
