What a BUSY, FUN week we had last week celebrating Catholic Schools Week last week!  It was great to see many of you at open house last Sunday and thank you for all you did to make our week special!  We are in for another busy, fun week this week!
Monday we will celebrate the 100th day of school.  There is going to be many fun learning activities all day long!  We have worked hard to get here and the children have learned so much-it is time to celebrate!

We will also be exchanging Valentine’s on Thursday afternoon.  The children will make a valentine bag, have a cookie treat and pass out valentines to their friends.  The rules for valentines are simple…everyone must get one!  Your child can choose to individually address them to each classmate or he/she can just sign his/her name.  It is up to your first grader.  We have 31 students in our class.  Please make sure that everyone gets one and that way no one’s feelings will be hurt!   Thank you!

Another reminder-there is no school this Friday, February 12th and next Monday, February 15th.  I hope you enjoy your days off!

In religion we will be taking our unit test on Tuesday.  You should have received a study guide home last week.  In our new chapter we will be discussing how Jesus calls us to serve with a smile!

In Social Studies we will be reviewing community helpers this week.  We will discuss what they do to help the community, as well as, the vehicles they drive, the places they work and the equipment they use.

In math both groups will continue their work with fractions and probability.  We will hopefully finish up next week.  Homework will be coming home again this Monday.  Please be sure to keep practicing math facts at home.  Thank you!

In reading the Penguins will be reading a story about Johnny Appleseed.  The spelling words are: rain, day, wait, say, way, tail, pretty and light.  The bonus word will be valentine.  The sentence for the week is: Wait until the rain stops.  This week we will focus on -ai and -ay making the long a sound.  We will continue to work on making inferences.

The Dolphins and the Cheetahs will be reading Yasmin’s Ducks this week.  The spelling words are: home, hope, hole, rope, those, and nose.  The bonus this week is valentine.  The sentence this week is I hope the rope will hold.  Parents, from now on backwards letters will be marked incorrectly!  Please be sure your child is checking letters that he/she struggles with!

Have a great week!  Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns!
