3A Week of February 1 Ms. Brown

Spanish: pages 22, 23, 24, 25 due Friday, February 19

Religion: This week we will not begin a new chapter in our book so no test! We will continue to learn about the Beatitudes(and work on a fun project). Last week we learned that the Beatitudes were part of Jesus’ law of love. The Beatitudes teach us how to live a happy life!

English/Writing: Everyone is very excited as we will spend some of our time each day with book project presentations. Everyone did a great job and so far the children who have presented their projects have done a wonderful job of telling us the story and why it is their favorite book. We will also spend some time writing about “Jazzy January” and we will begin to take a look at Unit 5 in our English book. All of the content in this unit will be very familiar to all of us as it contains everything from our Daily Language Review. The unit focuses on capitalization, punctuation, writing sentences correctly, abbreviations, and quotation marks.

Science: We begin the week viewing a video on wind and clouds which will review everything we learned last week. The Chapter 7 Lesson 2 outline and vocabulary packet will be handed out on Monday and due on Thursday. On Wednesday we move onto learning about climate and seasons. We will learn about how the Earth tilts on its axis and how the Earth’s motions are responsible for our climate and seasons.

Math: We will finish Chapter 10 up on Monday, we will review on Tuesday, and take the chapter test on Wednesday, February 3. Then we move on to Chapter 11; more division! We will focus again on fact families and then learn to divide by 3. Also, we continue the practicing of extended response problem solving. Once a week the children will be given a story problem to glue into their math spiral. Then they will solve and write about it. We continue also with our 50 fast facts–everyone is working very hard and doing a great job!!!

Reading: This week we follow our regular schedule; vocabulary stories, practice workbooks, vocabulary quizzes, and spelling tests. The Illustrators will read Cactus Hotel, the Authors will read The Bat Boy and His Violin, and the Publishers will read Wilbur’s Boast (an excerpt from Charlotte’s Web). The Publishers will also begin writing a rough draft for another story this week based on what happens in Wilbur’s Boast.

January Book It Logs can be handed in any day this week. The February Book It Log will come home in this week’s Wednesday envelope.

Lots of fun on tap this week as we begin Catholic School’s Week–

Monday: ice cream treat, Tuesday:Catholic trivia for third grade, bookmarks, and Performing Arts Assembly, Wednesday: inside out shirt day and crazy socks, Friday: red and white clothing day for the Spirit Rally in the afternoon.

Also this week on Wednesday the student body will have their throats blessed for the Feast Day of St. Blase.

All in all it will be a fun, busy, fast week!! We will have a great week–hope you do too!
