RELIGION:   Take Chapter 6 test Tuesday.  Continue to present our Chapter 6 skits!  Start all-school SJA program called “Character Counts”  focusing on the 4th grade virtue of RESPONSIBILITY (being dependable and reliable). Watch Act 1 video and do activities.  Students continue to work on “Wanted Saint” poster due January 25 (Monday).

.

SOCIAL STUDIES: Continue our mini-map unit  identifying different regions and locating places with latitude/longitude lines.  Hurrah for Mr. Wind - our guest speaker (boy immigrant from Holland).  Continue activities for our true immigrant story of Yehuda, a Jewish Russian boy, traveling to Ellis Island.

.

SCIENCE:   Students loved being “rock hounds.”  Using specimens from Cave of the Mounds in WI, students identified different rocks and characteristics.  Did you know that the Illinois State rock is flourite (glows in the dark)?  Start new unit on National Parks.  This unit blends nicely with Social Studies and Science. However we will consider it science.  Students receive directions on information to gather for their specific national park.  Begin comparing/contrasting vertebrates, invertebrates, mammals, birds, reptiles, etc. in preparation for understanding “adaptation.”
