PE Department Week of 1/11/10
Published by Wind/Wenzel/Blakemore (PE) January 11th, 2010 in Announcements.Jr. High professional dance classes have begun. Mr. Andy Fuzak, a former SJA student, is our instructor. These classes are on Mondays during 7th and 8th grade gym classes. 8th grade has reacquainted themselves with the dance moves from last year, and 7th grade seems to be getting the hang of it.
Jr. High will begin volleyball testing this week. They will be graded on underhand and overhand serving, passing and setting. This will be part of their 2nd trimester grade along with dance. 6th grade Health Class has finished their unit on Nutrition. They learned about the Food Guide Pyramid and how to read food labels to make healthy food choices. This week they will learn about the dangers of smoking and how to avoid becoming a smoker. Jr. High Fitness Classes juggled scarves. This develops cross-body movement and coordination. They did great. They’re all ready to join to the circus!
Elementary classes are dancing also. 4th and 5th grades are dancing the “Virginia Reel”, and will continue square dancing for a few weeks. 1st, 2nd and 3rd grades learned the “Alley Cat” dance last week and really did a mean “limbo”. Kindergarten learned the “Kinderpolka”. This is a German folk dance with partners. They did great!
Have a wonderful week.
