3B Happenings 1/11 - 1/15

There is much to be done in each subject as we prepare for report cards next week (Wednesday, 1/20). Your children did a beautiful job last week in my absence and I am eager to hear their stories and compliment their efforts.
This Wednesday we will enjoy another great ‘Hands on Science’ presentation. Friday we will celebrate the end of the quarter with D.E.A.R. (drop everything and read) time. Please remind your child to bring some good books to read and a small towel or something to lie on or cuddle with. They love this reward time.
Reading: The Fireballs will read Pure Power. The Bees will read JJ’s Big Day. The Bowling Balls will read A Very Cool Place to Visit. All three groups should read these stories aloud to someone at home by Thursday please. They will complete vocabulary stories and comprehension activities by Friday. The story quiz and spelling test will be given on Friday. All three groups will have Unit Testing this Wednesday and Thursday. See your child’s assignment notebook/planner for study tips.
Math: The Cubs will review Chapter 10 on Monday. Testing will be given on Tuesday and Wednesday. They begin Chapter 11 this week. The Blackhawks will finish Chapter 9 and have their tests on Wednesday and Thursday. They begin Chapter 10. Please continue to practice multiplication tables at home. Speed quizzes are given every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday.
Religion: We will read and discuss social justice teachings this week. No test.
Social Studies: This is the last week for 3A students to come to me for Social Studies. Next week they return to Ms. Brown to study Science once again. We will finish and review Chapter 2 and all geography terms. Testing will be Tuesday (1/12). Please refer to your child’s assignment notebook/planner for study tips.
English: We continue to study Unit 4. Adverbs will be a bit confusing at first. Please ask your child to bring home the hardcover text this week and next to look over what we cover in class. Lessons will be on Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday.
Spanish: There will be no Spanish class this Thursday. Pages 16 and 17 are due next Thursday (1/21).
Accelerated Reader: The quarter ends Friday, January 15. Please encourage your child to finish what they are currently reading and take the quiz by end of the day Thursday.
Our class is very much in need of paper towels. Please donate what you can.
