.
RELIGION: Continue CH. 6 learning about making good decisions and review for the Ch. 6 test the following week. The “Conscience Wheel” diagram is due Tuesday. Students receive directions for their “Wanted Saint” poster due January 25 (Monday). Finish the ” St. Francis Xavier & Samurai’s Lost Treasure” video about courage and faith. After our study of St. Elizabeth Seton , a convert, the class was stunned at her many trials and sufferings. She was the first American born saint. Studying the saints gives us models of faith and encouragement. At the end of the school day we call on St. Faustina (”Jesus, I trust in you!), St. Therese (Grow in the little way), St. Phillip of Neri (Grow in joy) and now St. Elizabeth Seton (Never give up !).
.
SOCIAL STUDIES: Continue study of Ellis Island reading Marina’s (real person) journal, watching the “American Sites and Symbols” video, and doing activities related to the story called “Journey to Ellis Island.” The students were quite excited to share their different nationalities with others and me. We were surprised how many students this year were part Native American. It was an eye-opener to students that Americans are a combination of many different nationalities from Europe, Asia, Africa, etc. There is no pure American!
.
SCIENCE: Using many different rock specimens from the “Cave of the Mounds” in Wisconsin, students will use their observation skills to match the rock to a picture and its description. Whew! The rough drafts are finished and edited. Now we move into “production” mode making the final gemstone copy complete with pictures. This is an in-class only activity.
