3B Happenings 1/4/10 - 1/8/10
Published by Mrs. Donovan (3B) January 1st, 2010 in Announcements.HAPPY NEW YEAR! I have remembered you and your children in my prayers over the break. Wasn’t it a wonderful time off? My husband and I left for Ft Drum, New York on New Year’s Day. We will return January 8th. The sub is Ms. Meghan Doyle who is really great. She will keep things running smoothly in my absence. This trip, as you know, is to welcome home from a one year tour of duty in Afghanistan our son and my hero Lt. John Donovan. Thank you for your prayers and support during this trying time. It is over now!
Reading: The Fireballs will read Cloudy With A Chance Of Meatballs. The Bees will read Big Blue Whale. The Bowling Balls will read The Patchwork Quilt. All three groups will complete daily skill practice, a Friday comprehension quiz, and Friday Spelling test as usual. Please ask them to bring home and show you their softcover workbook pages and read aloud to you their story for the week. The 6 vocabulary words are in the softcover workbook and will be tested on Friday. Related writing skills are graded throughout the week.
Math: The Cubs will continue Chapter 10 and the study of division. Please practice multiplication tables through 12 at home frequently. They will begin timed tests on these basic facts this week. The Chapter 10 testing is scheduled for early next week. The Blackhawk group will continue Chapter 9 and the study of multiplication. Please practice the tables at home. Writing out the tables will help those that are struggling. They will be tested on Chapter 9 next week on Wednesday and Thursday.
Religion: We will study Chapter 9. The children need to study with your guidance the highlighted material in the chapter and the chapter review page. They will benefit greatly from your help studying for the test to be given on Thursday (1/7/10).
Social Studies: We will finish our state reports this week. We will continue in Chapter 2 and the test will be next week on Tuesday 1/12/10. This week a Mystery island activity will be assigned. It is due Monday 1/11/10 next week.
English: We continue the study of adjectives in Unit 4. In creative writing we will write New Year Resolutions.
Spanish: No homework due this Thursday.
Accelerated Reader: The quarter ends Friday, January 15. Please encourage your child to take the quiz for their books.
Please dress your child for the weather so they can enjoy recess every day. Check their school pouch for supplies. I hope Santa was able to bring new colored pencils, crayons, markers, scissors, pencils, red pens, folders, spiral notebooks etc. if any of these were needed. Thank you for all that you do. Our class is again in need of some paper towels and Kleenex if you have not donated as yet.
ALL THE BEST IN THE NEW YEAR!
