3A Week of January 4 Ms. Brown

I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas vacation! I am sure we are all rested and ready to get back to our everyday routines.

Spanish: no homework is due this week.

Religion: This week we will work in Chapter 11; One Holy People. We will learn how the Catholic Church is one and holy. We will also learn about how the parts of the Mass are the same all around the world, we will learn about Pentecost, and how Saints help us to be better Catholics. We will take the Chapter test on Friday, January 8.

English/Writing: We will continue our study of adjectives; on Monday we will do some writing with adjectives, we will then learn about the articles, a, an, and the, and learn how to use adjectives in the comparative form. In Writing we will be very busy. This week we will begin our Winter Break narrative; the children will use a graphic organizer, write a rough draft, and a final copy. We will call it “Winter Break Was Snow Cool”. On Wednesday look for a handout out on a book project. The children will each select their favorite book to make a book project (a visual) that tells about their favorite book. They will write a book report/review about this book in school. We will begin writing the report/review during the week of January 11. The book project hand out has directions on how to make each project; your child should select one. Book projects will be due on Thursday, January 28.

Science: This week in class 3B students will work in their groups to write their animal life cycle reports and create their drawings of their animal’s life cycle. Each group will give their presentation during the week of January 11.

Math: We will continue on in Chapter 9 with multiplication facts. Keep practicing at home. This week we will review the facts we have learned so far and then begin to learn the 7’s, 8’s, and 9’s. We are on track to take the Chapter 9 test on Wednesday, January 13.

Reading: This week we are back to our regular Reading schedule. All groups will begin the week with writing vocabulary stories and will have spelling tests on Friday. The Illustrators will read Pecos Bill, the Authors Animal Fact Animal Fable, and the Publishers Pure Power. The Authors and Illustrators will have story quizzes on Friday and work in their leveled readers. The Publishers will take their story quiz on Thursday and work in their leveled reader on Thursday.  They are scheduled to take a unit test on Friday, January 8.

We have only two weeks left to the second quarter. The children have done a fine job with meeting the accelerated reading requirement. Many children are working at challenging themselves with their reading selections.

December Book It logs can be returned to school anytime this week. The January Book It log will come home in this week’s Wednesday envelope.

All in all that should cover it. I am sure the children have had a wonderful time playing in the snow over break. Please make sure they bring their snow gear to school with them so they can play in the snow during recess. It looks like a rather cold week ahead so remind them to bundle up! Have a great week!
