Mrs. Barenbrugge 1A December 13
Published by Mrs. Barenbrugge 1A December 13th, 2009 in Announcements. We are in for a fun and busy week! Due to all the excitement there will NOT be any spelling this week. There will also not be any math homework.
In math we will begin to talk about shapes. During our calendar time we have been talking about place value, time and money. We will spend time this week getting deeper into these subjects. After Christmas break we will be covering all three topics in depth.
In reading all three groups have been working on comparing and contrasting as well as story elements. We will go over these two comprehension skills again this week. We are also going to spend time practicing blends, contractions and long vowels. All of these skills are very important and can use a little reinforcement.
We are continuing our study of Jan Brett. The children are really enjoying her stories-many of them are related to Christmas. Ask your first grader about The Gingerbread Baby or The Wild Christmas Reindeer.
There are many special activities this week.
Monday is the Kris Kringle shop. The children will have the chance to shop for their family and friends. Please be sure to send a list of names for whom your child should shop for along with the money envelope you received last week.
Tuesday we will have an all school rehearsal for the Christmas Program. The children will enjoy seeing all the other grades perform!
Wednesday we will be doing a special Christmas project with our 6th grade buddies. We will be having a special “indoor picnic” with our buddies. Please send a beach towel to school with your child so he/she can picnic on it! Thank you for your help in making our buddy event a success!
Thursday is Sister Carolyn’s Annual Christmas Buffet. Last year it was so wonderful! I think we are all looking forward to this special lunch!
Friday afternoon will be our first grade Christmas party! Thank you to all the parents who have been working hard to plan a special event for us! I have heard a few of the details and I know the children are going to have a great time! We will end the day with an all school prayer service.
The St. Joan of Arc Christmas Program will begin at 6:30 on Friday night. The children should be dropped off in their classroom at 6:15 that evening. Please remember dress clothes. No jeans or tee shirts. We are only allowed to dismiss students to their parents after the program, please don’t send older siblings to pick up your child. Thank you for your cooperation!
Father Gabriel stopped by to talk about Advent with us! We sang Mary Said Yes to God for him and he loved it! Ask your child about Advent and what it means. You will LOVE their answers! I can’t believe it is already the third week of Advent and the last week of school before break! Be sure to look for your child’s present to come home and be put under the tree. They worked very hard to create something I know you will love!
Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
