3B Happenings 12/7 - 12/11

The children are eager to play in the snow. Please watch the weather news and help them be dressed properly for wet, snowy weather. Especially during the next two weeks, it is important for us all to get outside and run off excess energy.

Be sure to check out Ms. Brown’s blog for current Science class information.

This week and next: There are many holiday and Advent activities ahead for the children. Hope you are enjoying their random acts of kindness off the Advent chains. Monday we discuss the second Sunday of Advent and begin our daily prayer for the week. We will also continue our service project of holiday greetings for the sick of the parish. Tuesday is the Music rehearsal for the Christmas Program scheduled for 6:30pm on Friday, December 18. Tuesday is the Feast of the Immaculate Conception and we will attend an all school mass at 10:00am. Wednesday is another Junior Achievement presentation. Watch for the mid-term report to come home on Wednesday. Thursday and Friday we will follow our routine schedules. Next week on Monday (12/14) the children need their shopping list and money to make purchases at the Kris Kringle market. Thursday (12/17) will be the yummy and exciting Christmas Buffet. Friday (12/18) will be our wonderful classroom party!

Reading: All three groups will spend this week and next week on the following stories. The Fireballs will read The Many Lives of Benjamin Franklin and read additional material plus do in-class research on his life and times. Their class activities will include an information brochure for presentation to the reading groups. The Bees will read Cactus Hotel and include artistic and research class activities. The Bowling Balls will read Pecos Bill and have class activities which will include a presentation of the skit to the other groups. Comprehension quizzes and Spelling tests for these stories will be delayed until next week. No testing this week.

Math: The Cubs will finish off Chapter 9 this week and have their testing next week on Monday and Wednesday. The material at the end of this chapter is quite challenging and includes advanced concepts. When your child brings home their text, please ask them to show you pages 250-255. The actual problems we do will be much simpler than the concepts discussed in class. The Blackhawks will continue in Chapter 8 and their testing is scheduled for next week. They will be exposed to pre-algebra concepts, multiplication strategies, and the multiplication properties along with the easy times tables (0’s, 1’s, 2’s, 4’s, 5’s and 10’s).

Religion: Our focus this week will be on Advent lessons and the Immaculate Conception of Mary. No testing this week or next week.

Social Studies: The 3A students are telling me that they enjoy doing the research outside of school on their state report. I will be eager to see their creative posters, read their one page reports, and listen to their oral presentations due Monday (12/14). We begin Chapter 2 this week. No quiz or test until after Christmas break.

English: We will review Unit 3 Verbs on Monday. The Unit Test will be Wednesday. Our writing this week will focus upon the traditional Christmas Nativity story.

Spanish: Pages due Thursday are: 12, 13, and14.

Accelerated Reader: Most of the children have completed the required 4 books for this quarter and are improving their grade by reading 4 or more books and passing those quizzes. Look for the number your child has completed on the mid-term report.

Pray for peace this beautiful Christmas Season.
