2A TODAY DECMBER 4, 2009
Published by Mrs. Bradburn (2A) December 4th, 2009 in Announcements.Good Morning!
Tis the season to prepare. During this first week of Advent the second graders have not only been preparing for the coming of Jesus but also for receiving the Sacrament of Reconciliation. Mrs. Greyson interviewed most of the children in 2A this week. The few remaining children will have their interviews next week. Please make sure the Reconciliation book is completed and brought to school. During Advent we are trying to fulfill our class motto: “Make Someone’s Day” through random acts of kindness. I hope you notice those kind acts your child may be doing for you.
We are making a concerted effort to drill math facts in school. I would like to ask for your help with this. Addition and subtraction flash cards make a great stocking stuffer. Then working with your child on those flash cards for fifteen minutes EVERY day will make a big difference. We are finding that, for the most part, the children do not have the facts committed to memory yet nor can they recite the facts fast enough. The goal in second grade is for everyone to be able to complete the timed test of one hundred problems in one minute. It is imperative they know addition and subtraction facts by heart before they move to third grade where they will be learning multiplication and division facts. Thank you for helping us reach our goal.
One last request: Can you please send in a roll of paper towel and a box of kleenex with your child next week? We are almost out of both. I’m not sure we could survive a day without either of these. Thanks for your help.
Have a wonderful winter weekend.
