3B Happenings 11/30 - 12/4

Thank you to all who shared both insights and encouragement at conference time. These conversations are always so helpful to me as I try to understand your child’s needs and strengths. Happy New Year! This, of course, refers to Advent. Sunday was the first Sunday in Advent and the beginning of our church calendar. Ask your child what they learned about the church calendar last week.

Hope your entire Thanksgiving weekend was full of family, friends, and feasting together. The excitement of the children will grow over the next 3 weeks of school. Thank you for all of the effort you will need to expend to help them stay focused on their lessons. Watch the blog for information on all of the special events that we will enjoy together as we eagerly await the coming of our Lord and Savior.

One of the nicest events will occur this Sunday. Please join us at St. Joan of Arc’s 11:30 mass. The ‘Invitation to Worship’ for this special third grade family mass will come home to you in your Wednesday envelope.

Please help your child remember to turn in their Book It Reading Log for the month of November. There should be a short book review on the back. The December log will go home in the Wednesday envelope. Keep a record of minutes read until you receive the log.

This week: Junior Achievement is scheduled for Wednesday.

Reading: The Fireballs will read Animal Fact/Animal Fable. The Bees will read In My Family. The Bowling Balls will read The Little Painter of Sabana Grande. All three groups will have regular comprehension quizzes on these stories this Friday. All three groups will have regular Spelling tests on Friday.

Math: The Cubs will complete Chapter 8 and the test is scheduled for Tuesday and Wednesday. They begin Chapter 9 this week. Please keep reviewing basic math facts for addition and subtraction this week. Timed tests for multiplication will not be given this week. The Blackhawks begin multiplication and Chapter 8 this week. They test out of Chapter 7 this Tuesday. Please continue to review basic addition and subtraction facts because the timed tests on multiplication do not start up as yet. Several students are still not proficient with their basic addition and subtraction facts. Please google fact practice on your computer (some parents have an application on their smart phone) and continue the building of speed and confidence with addition and subtraction.

Religion: We will complete Chapter 8. The test will be Friday. Next week we will cover Advent and Christmas lessons. We will continue our service project of writing cheerful holiday notes and cards to the sick of the parish. Watch for the Advent chain to come home with lovely random acts of kindness to occur all during Advent.

Social Studies:  3A students will continue lessons in Chapter 1. The test is currently scheduled for this Thursday. However, it may be postponed until next week. Watch for a page of directions to come home in the Wednesday envelope for the state report due December 17. The actual presentations will begin after Christmas break.

Science: Please go to Ms. Brown’s blog because she is teaching 3B students their Science this quarter. Your child has been asked to save all handouts and packets as these need to be studied for any tests given.

English: This week we finish and review all of Unit 3 Verbs. Please help your child study pages 130-140 in short sections before Monday, December 7. That is when we will have the Unit 3 test.

Spanish: Pages 10 and 11 are due December 3.

Accelerated Reader: Many children have completed 5 or more quizzes already. Great Job! Please provide them with time to read at home during the next 3 weeks.

There is much to accomplish this week and homework is necessary. Know that the goal is to lighten up as Christmas break approaches. Thank you for keeping your child focused and prepared for class each day. Check the homework notebook please.
