Mrs. Kenney - Week of August 31-September 4
Published by Mrs Kenney (4B) August 30th, 2009 in Announcements.Welcome to Fourth Grade! I am looking forword to getting to know both you, and your children, this year.
In my classroom, I promote an atmosphere of safety, trust, and respect. I work hard to build a sense of community among my students, and I emphasize the idea of teamwork. I value cooperation and believe great things can happen when we work together
Reminders:
- The band director will visit our class on Monday for an in-class demonstration. Instument testing will be on Wednesday, and parent sign-up will be on Thursday evening from 6:30p.m. - 7:30p.m. in hall near the gym.
- Students in Music this quarter need to bring their recorder to class on Thursdays
Religion: This week we will discuss the many ways we see Jesus reflected in other people . The students will be writing poems about people in their own lives who shine for Jesus.
English: We will begin Unit 1, “The Sentence”. Our focus this week will be identifying and writing the different types of sentences. The children will be taking notes and doing daily practice exercises in their English notebooks.
Writers Workshop: This week I will be reading aloud children’s books, sharing personal experiences, and reliving family stories so that every child will come to realize they have stories to tell and important ideas to write about.
On Friday, the children will be personalizing the covers of their writer’s notebook - I have asked them to bring in photographs, magazine pictures, photos from the internet, stickers, letters, etc.
Reading: Accelerated Reader contracts went home last week. Please be sure to read over the requirements for AR with your child; a parent and student signature is required.
Because of the different groups and the two different reading teachers (Sister Jackie and myself) in fourth grade, I do not post reading assignments/tests on the blog - please check the assignment notebook. Also, I will send home a parent letter a week before each test
Spelling: Last week I sent home a letter explaining the 4th grade spelling program, please read if you have not done so already. The first list will be sent home on Thursday; the test and homework are due next Thursday (9/10/09)
