Kindergarten News
Published by Mrs. Kolar (K) August 30th, 2009 in Announcements. We had a wonderful first week. We learned a little about ourselves and a little about one another. We played a little, laughed a little, worked a little, prayed a little and learned about so much!
This week we begin meeting our other kindergarten teachers. The children will rotate between classrooms for 30 minutes each of math, science and social studies, and language arts. In the afternoon, these subjects are reinforced and expanded upon.
For this week, the children will be introduced to the high frequency words the and a. Each week the children will be introduced to new words. By the end of the year, the children will have been introduced to a total minimum of eighty words. We also begin the year with a review of the letter names and sounds.
In math for the first quarter, our goal is to count to 25 and identify numerals to 25. Most of the children will be able to pick these skills up during class, but a few may need extra practice. It would be a good idea to practice for about five minutes each evening until your child is able to demonstrate these skills quickly and without error. You may then wish to review two or three times a week. We will work at meeting our goal of reaching 100 by the end of the year.
I have begun to contact parents who have volunteered to work in the computer lab with our children. There is still time to sign up. You may also wish to volunteer for hot lunch help, science experiments, or helping Mrs. Jablonski in the library. If you want to find a way to become involved, contact the PSO. I’m sure they can help you find a special place where you can become involved.
The gospel message this week tells us to have clean hearts. As little saints in the making, we will practice sweeping out the “yucky stuff” inside our hearts and freshen our hearts instead with love.
For those who are still just a little confused:
- We have a snack in the morning and a lunch at lunch time. Your child should have these separated when brought to school. Be sure your child has the snack in a separated container with the child’s name on it.
- Thursday is Library day.
- Friday is gym day. Be sure your child wears gym shoes on that day.
- Children must be seated at their desks and ready for daily announcements at 7:50 a.m. Attendance begins at this time. Children may go to their classrooms starting at 7:30.
- Check the blog often for important information.
- Hot lunch sign up is now available online.
- Children bring their home folders and binders home daily. Be sure they return them daily to school. We use these daily in school.
- Be sure your child dresses for the weather. We go out for recess daily weather permitting. Be sure your child has his/her name labeled on garments.
- If you need me for anything, you can contact me at bkolar@sjalisle.org I will get back to you as soon as I can. Please do not send any information about dismissal through the email.
Have a wonderful week!
