The St. Joan of Arc Drama Club presents “Willly Wonka Jr.” on May 1, 2009 at 7:30 p.m. and on May 3, 2009, at 2:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. at St. Joan of Arc School, 4913 Columbia Avenue in Lisle. Tickets in advance are $8.00 for adults and $5.00 for students and seniors. Tickets are also available at the door: $10.00 for adults and $7.00 for students and seniors. Call 630-969-7711 for advance tickets.
The play, like the movie starring Johnny Depp, is the beloved story of the Candy Man (Willy Wonka), a brilliant but eccentric inventor.  Wonka wants to retire from running his candy factory and begins an international search for a worthy replacement.  He puts five lucky tickets in his candy bars and the ticket holders are invited to tour the factory. What the ticket holders don’t know is that Wonka is considering which of them should take over the factory. Only Charlie Bucket, whose family is so poor they cannot even afford warm clothes, turns out to be honest, sincere and good. The others are taken away by the delightful “Oompa Loompas” and other creations of Wonka’s vivid imagination.
This is the 10th annual production of the SJA Drama Club. All ten productions have been co-directed by Becky Stefely, Margie Novotny and Pam Shuta, all of whom have volunteered their time and are expected to “retire” after the Willy Wonka show. Mrs. Shuta’s and Mrs. Novotny’s youngest children have already graduated from SJA in 2006 and 2008. Mrs. Stefely’s youngest graduates this year. Come see this final production directed by these three talented women who have taught hundreds and hundreds of St. Joan of Arc children the meaning of generosity.
