THANK YOU: The Farolan family gave 4A wonderful memories with Fr. Gabriel. After we ate pizza together, he answered many questions from students about his personal life and what it means to be a Catholic. We felt many blessings from this event!!! Can you believe it? We have had personal contact with Fr. Gabriel 5 times this year (2 confessions, “Tour of the Church” mini field trip, “Saint relics under the altar,” and a pizza lunch.
.
RELIGION: Selected students read different parts of a reader’s theater script called “Somethings Wrong” portraying Jesus being crucified and different views of this happening from heaven, Caiaphas’s office, and Satan’s office. Reading the American folk tale called “The Tale of Three Trees,” students discover three trees whose wishes come true is surprising ways. One tree is made into a cross. We end the week with a service of shadows. The Friday of Holy Week is called Good Friday, and it was most likely first known as “God’s Friday.” This special day commemorating Christ’s suffering and death on the cross, has been remembered this way since the 4th century. Many churches hold a service of Tenebrae, a service of shadows as they remember Jesus’ last hours on the cross. Using scripture (shadow of betrayal, shadow of inner agony, shadow of loneliness, shadow of desertion, shadow of accusation, shadow of mockery, and shadow of death) and symbolic act of blowing out candles one by one , 4A will hold our own “service of shadows.”
.
SOCIAL STUDIES: Using “TIME FOR KIDS” (magazine), students complete a packet assignment about the historic journey of Lewis and Clark and role play different scenarios using the reader’s theater script called “Land of the Unknown.”
.
SCIENCE: Note cards are returned and students begin their rough draft endangered animal reports using specific guidelines. Some writing will be done in social studies and some writing will be done in writer’s workshop and English classes with Mrs. Kenney.
