3B Happenings 12/1 - 12/5
Published by Mrs. Donovan (3B) November 30th, 2008 in Announcements. It was wonderful to see so many of you at conference time. Thank you for the insight and continual support you always offer.
Hope your Thanksgiving was full of good food, family, and fun. Now the beautiful season of Advent is here. There is much to accomplish in a mere 3 weeks time. How fitting we begin with Reconciliation this week on Wednesday. Please have your child well practiced on the Act of Contrition. On Wednesday look for the mid-term report to come to you in the school envelope. Mr. Braun will be back on Wednesday for another Junior Achievement presentation.
The next three weeks will be filled with holiday preparations, arts & crafts, and songs. Please be sure your child has crayons, scissors, markers, colored pencils, and any other school supplies that may be running low. Check the school calendar for important dates. Please ask your child to sing the music program songs to you and check if they need some coaching with the words.
As the weather changes, know we do continue to go out for recess. Please dress your child for the weather.
Reading: The Inferno will finish Big Blue Whale and read J.J.’s Big Day. The Friday testing will be on vocabulary and skills for J.J.’s Big Day. The Monkeys will finish work on the story A Very Cool Place and have Friday testing on this story. On Thursday and Friday, they will take the Unit Test we were not able to do last week. Please review the vocabulary for the last 5 stories. The pages are highlighted in their Practice Workbook. The Brainstorms will read Moses Goes to a Concert and have their comprehension test on Friday. All three groups will have their usual Friday Spelling test on the words they receive Monday. The Spelling homework is due Thursday.
Math: The Wizards will begin Chapter 8. Please work with your child to memorize the multiplication tables for 2, 4, 5, 10, 0, and 1. Ask them about the strategies taught in class. Add the rest of the times tables after your child masters these. The test for Chapter 8 will be Tuesday of next week. The Bubble’s Buddies will review Chapter 6 and the final test is this Tuesday. They begin Chapter 7 and will enjoy using spinners, dice, and tables to discover the principles of probability. They will test out of Chapter 7 next Tuesday, December 9. Please review addition and subtraction facts (use greater numbers like 16-7=, 15-9=, 14-5=), working towards quick recall. We will be learning multiplication tables very soon and many students still need their fingers to calculate easy addition.
Religion: No test this week. We will complete the Unit Review and study Advent lessons.
Social Studies: The 3A students will finish up Chapter 1. Please study the sentences they write daily in class to prepare for the test this Thursday. The state reports are due December 8. Remind your child to put their name on each of the 3 parts of the report (index card, poster, and written report). If students have completed their report, they may turn in all 3 parts together and be on the list to give their report first. We will begin working in Chapter 2. If the state reports do not take too much time, we will test the chapter before the Christmas break.
English: We continue our work in Unit 3 pages 112-121. The test for Unit 3 will be next week.
Spanish: Homework pages 11 and 14 are due this Thursday.
Accelerated Reader: Watch for the up-to-date number of passed quizzes this Wednesday on the mid-term report. Your child should have more than 2 passed quizzes by now to be on schedule for this quarter. Several children were asked to be ready for a quiz this Monday.
I am eager to hear Thanksgiving holiday stories from everyone tomorrow!
