A short week this week with a teacher institute day on Friday. Thursday morning we will see the drama club production “Twinderella”. Everyone has been looking forward to the play.

In Religion this week we will take our last test for the year. The chapter 21 test will be on Wednesday. We will then begin our study of the rosary the following week.

In English we will do a cumulative review this week. In Creative Writing we are working on poems  modeled after 3 that we read together in class by Jack Prelutsky. They are called “When I Grow Up…”, “My Creature”, and “I’m Glad I’m Me!”. Our final copies of our versions of these poems will be in our scrapbooks with illustrations. Once complete we will share them with each other.

In Reading all groups are progressing nicely. The Wizards are beginning Unit 3 this week, the Champions are halfway through Unit 2, and the Warriors will complete Book 2 Unit 3  by the end of the month.

In Math the Blue Diamonds will take the Chapter 6 test on Monday. For the month of May we will revisit many of the concepts learned this year and work on strengthening our skills. This will help us focus on our individual strengths and weaknesses and give us an idea of what to work on over the summer. The Diamonds will finish up with fractions on Tuesday and then begin to study decimals.

In Science 3B students continue with their study of space. We have finished our planet reports and groups are presenting one planet a day. We have also covered why we have day and night and seasons. We have begun to learn about the moon. We covered the phases of the moon last week. On Monday we will see a video to reinforce what we learned. On Tuesday we will simulate the phases of the moon and make moon phase wheels to help us study for our moon phases quiz.(week of May 7) Everyone has a moon calendar that is due back in school on May 25. Next week we will cover the affect the moon has on oceans and solar and lunar eclipses.

Spanish assignment: Due May 11 pages 25-26, Spanish book due on May 18.

Music: Keep practicing songs on the recorder and don’t forget to bring it to school on Tuesdays.

Our field trips are scheduled for May 10: Lisle Heritage Society (note to go home this week) and May 29: Adler Planetarium. Due to the large number of chaperone responses I received I will select 8 parents to accompany my classroom to the Planetarium. There will also be 6 chaperones needed per homeroom for the trip to the Lisle Heritage Society. I would like to thank all of the parents for volunteering their time for field trips. I wish I could take everyone with! Your support is sincerely appreciated.

Hope everyone has a happy spring weekend!
