Ms.Brown 3A Week of February 26-March 2
Published by Ms. Brown (3A) February 23rd, 2007 in Announcements. This past week was a busy one and happily one where we could go outside to play. I did remind the children that if there is snow on the ground to please bring boots. Otherwise their play area is limited as we play outside in a grassy/snowy space.
In Religion we will begin Chapter 17 and spend a couple of weeks learning about the sacraments of reconciliation and the annointing of the sick. These are our sacraments of healing. We will learn about each sacrament, how they are administered, and why they are important to our Catholic faith. We will also learn some symbols associated with these sacraments and include them in our sacrament books.
In English we continue on with adjectives. We will learn about using comparative and superlative forms this week. In Writing we will begin work on another personal narrative. Also fatherhood essays will come home on Tuesday with a cover letter containing directions and the date the response section is due back in school. Thank you ahead of time for your cooperation with this.
In Science we take a test on Monday and then begin to concentrate on the stars.
In Reading we will be finishing up our stories this week on Thursday. We will not have reading the week of March 5-9 as we reserve our mornings for Terra Nova testing.
A short note on Terra Nova testing- I have not said much to the children about the tests themselves as I feel it best not to build test anticipation or anxiety. To those who have asked me I have reassured them that they are ready and well prepared to do their best. I told them to just get a good nights sleep, some breakfast, and don’t forget their snack! I am sure they will do well and enjoy a bit of a change in schedule during that week
In Math the Diamonds continue on with division. We are still practicing our multiplication facts so that we can relate multiplication and division with our fact families. Please keep reinforcing this at home. The Chapter 8 test will be on Thursday, March 1. The Blue Diamonds continue on with subtraction of greater numbers and will also test on Thursday, March 1.
The children made beautiful mosaic lenten crosses in school this week as a reminder of what they are offering up during this time of penance.
Some dates to remember: Book Project due March 14, Moon Calendar due March 14, Science Presentations begin March 19, Book It Logs for February can be brought to school on March 1st and 2nd, and Spanish book due March 2. Of course we are still working on our accelerated reader requirement of 4 books this quarter.
Wow - what a busy bunch we are! Thank you for your continued support of your child’s education. Our third quarter is a busy one and the children are ready, enthusiastic learners. They are a delight to spend each and every day with.
Have a great weekend!
