4A MRS. DANOWSKI WEEK of OCTOBER 27 - 31
Published by Mrs. Danowski (4A) October 24th, 2008 in Announcements.JEANS/SWEATSHIRT DAY: This takes place Oct. 31 - Friday. If the child does not have jeans or a sweatshirt then s/he must wear long slacks and a long sleeve blouse/shirt.
.
PSO ACTIVITY: It takes place Monday afternoon. Always lots of FUN!
.
ALL SAINTS DAY: Thursday at 10:30 a.m. in the church! We can’t wait to see the first graders.
.
RELIGION: We continue our study of St. Paul. Check out the hallway for letters that St. Paul wrote to each student. “The self-portraits are incredible” as echoed by viewers. This week’s themes are “Live as Children of the Light” and “God loves a Cheerful Giver.” Each will be explored with the Bible, self-reflection, some poetry, a dvd about St. Paul, etc.
.
SOCIAL STUDIES: The Chapter 2 (Region) test is Tuesday. Be sure to bring notes at the time of the test for extra credit points. We start Chapter 3 related to the EAST region. Students make a study guide for the coming test in the following week (November 6 - Tuesday) on the states/capitals of the East. In the past many students found using note cards (capital on one side and the state on the other side) were an effective way to learn them as well as their spelling. Spelling will be counted on the test as well as writing the correct state and correct capital together. In Chapter 3 students will practice their map making skills as well as analyzing and interpreting different maps.
.
SCIENCE: Hurrah for the many telephone books brought in filled with colorful fall leaves for an upcoming “Leaf Creature” activity. These students will earn some extra credit points in science. The mini- “Static Electricity” experiment (handout) is due Monday. Continue Chapter 12 on magnetism and electricity by describing how charges move and identifying the differences between parallel and series circuits (pp. 566- 569). Should you hear your child say “The light circuit is open” or “The fan circuit is closed” s/he is not speaking a foreign language just electrician talk. From now on to the end of school, students in the 4A room will not say “Can I turn on the lights?” Instead s/he will say “Can I close the light circuit?” or “Can I open the fan circuit?” (another way to leave what we are learning!)
