Miss Mayor’s Kindergarten News!

Happy Fall!  I hope everyone enjoyed our beautiful weekend!

This week in Kindergarten we are going to be introduced to three new letters, /Ww/, /Oo/, /Rr/.  We will continue with more letter/picture sorts, beginning sounds, and also word building activities.

Our new sight words this week are “of ” and “in”.  Please remember to continue practicing these words at home.  One way the children love to practice is playing a game of “How many word wall words can I find?” in their reading.  I also encourage the children to “take a picture” with their eyes of the words they find during independent reading or shared reading time.  This can also be a good strategy while reading with your children at home.

In Science, we will begin learning about the Properties of Matter.  We will discuss matter and what it is.  How do we know what state it is, solid, liquid, or gas?   We will go into detail of each state of matter and take part in many experiments having to do with each.
I am asking that each kindergartener bring in one (1) 12 or 16 oz. EMPTY water bottle.  We will be making a creation that the children will then be able to bring home.  If you have extra and you are willing to send those as well, that would be greatly appreciated.  I am asking that these are brought in by Monday, Oct. 6th.

During our afternoon literacy enrichment program, we will be using literature to enhance our understanding of our unique differences.

In Religion this week we are going to be exploring ways to share God’s good news with others.  We will be acting out different ways to do this, along with creating a “Good Deed Jar” in our classroom.  We will use this as a way of reminding and encouraging the children to share the good news of Christ and follow in His footsteps.  The children, along with Mrs. Boone or myself, will be encouraged to watch for people doing a “good deed” and write their name on a piece of paper.  At the end of each week, I will read off the names of the children whose names were placed in the “Good Deed Jar.”  I’m sure they will be excited to hear this idea!

Please remember to look for your child’s Mid-quarter Progress Reports in your Wednesday Envelope.   I have been assessing the children. For example, their knowledge of the letter sounds and our current sight words.  They seem to be doing well with our sight words, but it always helps to get more practice at home.   Please sign and return the bottom portion of this report and return in the Wednesday Envelope on Thursday.   If you have any questions regarding these reports, please email me.

REMINDERS FOR THE WEEK:

Wednesday: Progress Reports coming home.

Thursday: Hot Lunch (Cheesy Bread/Chicken Fingers from Passero’s)

Friday: GYM DAY (Please wear gym shoes. Some children are forgetting!)

Monday, Oct. 6th: All kindergarteners, please bring in empty water bottle for Science.

Have a happy week,

Miss Mayor
