5A/First Week in February
Published by Mrs. Slapansky (5A) February 4th, 2008 in Announcements.Happy February! What beautiful snowy beginning it is! We will be busy this month, as usual. Ash Wednesday begins Lent this week and we will learn about this spring-time season and how to prepare for the celebration of Easter. Holy Week is a beautiful liturgical celebration and I hope the children will be anxious to partake in the many prayerful liturgical celebrations. In Religion, we are testing out of Unit 2. The students have completed the review pages and are learning to write the Great Commandment of Jesus. They will also be asked to explain how it contains everything needed to do to follow Jesus. In chapter 8 we will learn about the power of stories and work to understand and apply the message of a parable. Jesus used parables to teach us about the kingdom of God. We would love to have you read along with us and share your understanding of the messages Jesus taught.
In Math we are multiplying and dividing fractions in one group, another group is working with Sister Gladys in Geometry and a third group is developing skills in division. All are working hard and your support is always appreciated. Science is fun. We are now exploring faults and how the earth platelets are in constant motion. Certain movements have proven to have predictable results, such as the formation of mountains. We are finishing Chapter three in our unit book. The students took home a packet today from chapter two. Some need to improve or revise their answers in order to score better. Most all students have handed in their reports about fossils. You will see fossils is part of chapter three. In Social Studies we are exploring the life of the Woodland Native Americans and how geography has effected their life style. The students read pp. 68-71 today in class and have been assigned the Lesson Review on page 71, #’s 1-6. I expect to have all their written work by Wednesday. They will receive added worksheets to go with the chapter. I hope this is helpful for you in the guidance of homework. Thank you for all you do. Mrs. Slapansky
