3A Ms. Brown Week of January 7-11

After a two week break we are ready to come back to school and finish the second quarter this week.
Reading: The Aces will be reading Two Bad Ants, the Masters will be reading three more stories about Benjamin Franklin and work on brochures about the many facets of his life, and the Rulers will be reading Pecos Bill. As usual we will work on related grammar, practice, and spelling pages. Story quizzes will be on Friday.
Religion: This week we will work in Chapter 10 and learn about Church leaders. We will read about the apostles, bishops, priests, deacons, and the Pope. The test will be on Thursday, January 10.
Science: 3B students will see a video all about magnets on Monday and spend the rest of the week investigating with magnets. This week will end this session of Science for 3B students and I will see them again in the fourth quarter as we explore the planets, and in particular our planet Earth.
Writing: We will finish up our dreams for the world and write about winter break.
English: We begin Unit 5 which focuses on mechanics in our writing.
Math: This week the Octagons will review Chapter 9 on Monday and take the test on Tuesday. The Triangles will review Chapter 7 on Monday and take the test on Tuesday. The Octagons will then begin Chapter 10 and basic division facts, and the Triangles will begin Chapter 8 and basic multiplication facts.
Spanish: no homework
This is the last week for students to meet their second quarter requirement for accelerated reader. They need 4 passed quizzes for a C. Most of the children have surpassed that goal.
This week on Friday we will have D.E.A.R.(drop everything and read) time. Please make sure your child brings some good books to school to read.
All in all that covers it for this week as we begin to readjust and get ourselves back into our school routine. Have a great week!
