3A Week of December 3-7

Only three weeks to go before Winter Break–lots to talk about. First of all this week a reminder for parents; Wednesday night is the Internet Safety presentation. We hope all of you can come for this eye opening presentation. Children whose parents attend will receive a jeans and sweatshirt day. For the children in 3A Joy Dooley will visit our classroom on Thursday for a safe environment presentation. Also Thursday is the last day to check out books from the library. Make sure you remind your child to get an accelerated reader book.

Spanish: pages 4 and 9 due Friday, December 7

Reading: This week the Rulers will read Moses Goes to a Concert, the Masters will read Lon PoPo, and the Aces will read Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs. All groups will read their stories out loud on Wednesday so expect the hard cover reader to come home that night so your child may reread the story to you.

Religion: This week we will work in Chapter 9 which discusses Jesus’ work and how we, the Church, continues his work here on earth. We will discuss service projects and once again how we can share our time, talent, and treasure. The Chapter 9 test will be on Thursday, December 5.

Science: 3B students begin the study of the Life Cycle of Plants. On Monday we will be working with seeds and waiting to watch them germinate. On Wednesday we will be dissecting flowers. A permission slip will come home with your child on Monday to make sure they may participate in this activity. We will be pulling the flowers apart completely and shaking pollen off of the stamen. If your child has any allergies that my prohibit them from participating in this activity I need to know. Your child will be given an alternate activity. No child will be allowed to participate without a signed permission slip.

English: We begin Unit 4 and the study of adjectives and adverbs. This is a unit that is sure to help us learn to write more vividly. We will cover lessons 1 through 3 this week.

Writing: We will finish up writing about Newsworthy November and then spend the week writing friendly letters to our servicemen.

Math: The Triangles will test out of Chapter 5 on Wednesday, December 5. We will cover Chapter 6 lessons 1, 2, and 3 this week as well. The Octagons will test out of Chapter 7 on Wednesday, December 5. We will then begin Chapter 8 and learn to understand the concept behind multiplication. We will cover lessons 1,2,and 3.

Some important reminders; the children know that now that we are halfway through the second quarter our expectations for them continue to rise. Homework must be turned in on time and planners must be filled out and signed on a daily basis.

All of the children took a look at their accelerated reader progress for this quarter last week. They were encouraged to continue to read. The second quarter ends on January 9 so that will be the last day to take quizzes.

Also remind your child to come to school with hats, mittens, scarves, etc…..we do go outside everyday for some fresh air unless we are below zero!

Have a great week!
