All SaintsThis week is a busy one! Some special events: Wednesday, October 31 is jean and sweatshirt day and also our All Saints Day event. Thursday, November 1 is All Saints Day and our school community will gather for Mass at 10AM. In third grade on Friday, November 2 we will have DEAR (drop everything and read) time from 1:00-2:00. Help your child select some good books to bring to school to read during this time. Also this week remind your child to bring their October Book It Log to school on Thursday if they are participating in this reading program.

Spanish: page 21 and extra credit due this Friday, November 2. Our weather forecasts and book are due on Friday, November 9.

Religion: We will begin the week by reviewing the last unit, we will learn about All Saints Day, and begin Chapter 7. There will be no Religion test this week.

Science: 3B students will begin Science this week. We have a short week with only 2 classes so we will just begin our topic; The Life Cycle of Animals. 3A students will begin Social Studies with Mrs. Donovan on Monday as well.

English: We continue on in Chapter 3 -Verbs

Writing: We finish up our narratives, write some batty facts about ourselves, and practice writing in a friendly letter format.

Handwriting: We will begin to practice upper case letters.

Reading: The Aces will read J.J.’s Big Day and take the Book 2 Unit 1 Test on Friday, November 2. The Masters will read In My Family. The Rulers will read The Sun, the Wind, and the Rain.

Math: The Octagons will work with subtraction of greater numbers and subtracting across zeros; lessons 5.6-5.8. Chapter 5 review will be on Wednesday, the test on Thursday, November 1. The Triangles will continue to work in Chapter 4; lessons 4.5-4.8.

We are in the second quarter so we start all over again for accelerated reader. The minimum requirement for this quarter and the rest are 4 passed quizzes. The minimum met is reflected with the letter grade C on the report card. Children who work to exceed the expectation (5.6,7,8) passed quizzes will receive a B, and those who significantly exceed the requirement (9 and over) will receive an A.

The weather definitely feels like fall. Please make sure your child has a jacket, coat, sweatshirt… so that they can be ready to go outside for recess.

It is hard to believe that this week we will greet the month of November. The school year seems to be moving along very quickly. Please continue to monitor your child’s use of their assignment book and ask to see their Reading practice workbook at least once a week. Thank you for all of the support and encouragement you have given to your children during the first quarter of third grade. It has certainly helped to ease the transition to third grade.

Have a great week.
