3A - Week of October 1-4

3AB Banner

This week is a short, busy, and fun one! For fun this week we will have a Performing Arts Assembly on Tuesday morning. No hot lunch on Thursday and no school on Friday.

Our work for the week:

Spanish: pages 17-18 due on Friday, October 12 -no class this Friday due to Teacher Institute Day

Reading: We will finish up our current stories on Monday and begin new ones on Wednesday. We will read our stories aloud on Thursday so look for the hard cover reader to come home that night. Please take the time to listen to your child reread our story.

Our new stories for this week are: Aces-Cactus Hotel, Masters-A Very Cool Place to Visit, Rulers-Champions of the World. As always we will work on the related skills in our grammar and practice book. Please keep checking those once a week.

Science: We begin the week dissecting flowers and learning about the parts of a flower and their functions. On Wednesday we will observe cones from conifers and learn about seed cones and pollen cones. All of this leads to understanding the life cycle of a flowering plant and the life cycle of a conifer.(Please make sure you returned your child’s permission slip for our flower dissecting activity.)

English: We will continue to work with nouns-plural, irregular, and singular possessive.

Religion: We will begin Chapter 5 which is dedicated to worship. Each student will begin to work on making their own book for younger children that tells all about the mass. We will have the Chapter 5 test next week, Thursday, October 11. This will give us plenty of time to work on our books and then share them with our classmates.

Writing: We begin the week by reading a published personal narrative. We will spend time this week identifying what makes a great narrative and the steps we will take as we begin to write our own next week.

Math: On Monday both groups will be reviewing chapter concepts. The Octagons will take the Chapter 3 test on Tuesday, October 2 and the Triangles will take the Chapter 2 test that day as well. After that the Octagons will begin to use their rounding skills to estimate sums and the Triangles will begin to work with money.

Progress Notes: You should have received a mid term progess report from your child on Friday. Please remember to sign the bottom portion and return to school so that we know you have seen the report.

I will update this page again for our short week of school coming up over the weekend-in the meantime enjoy your mini-fall break!
