Teacher Evaluations

Each year I spend some time in the classrooms as I evaluate the teachers. I always love the process as it gets me back into the trenches. The students at SJA are remarkable and being taught by an equally remarkable group of teachers. Recently I did the 2007/2008 evaluation for Mrs. Johnson - 1A and Mr. Levy – Jr. High Science.Mrs. Johnson’s certainly has a gift for music and her first graders are singing like angels. Religion class, on the day I observed, started with Shout to the Lord. It was incredibly moving to hear their little voices joined in song and see their eyes so happy. After the song the class went over their religion journals. The children’s entries and the parent’s responses in their journals are pure delight.
Jumping from first grade to Jr. High is mind boggling. Mr. Levy’s classes are all so well organized and he has such a love for his subject. Mr. Levy’s stories live in infamy with SJA alumni. On the day I visited his classroom Mr. Levy and the students were reviewing for an upcoming test. What a treat! The knowledge the students possess is truly remarkable.
While in science class I asked a group of 6th graders what it is that they like about Jr. High. Here are a few answers:
Makes us feel older and more mature.
We like having more teachers.
We can act as a role model to younger children.
We have more to learn.
We love the Lisle loop.
We like the new uniforms.
We like switching classes.
Well, we love having the 6th grade in Jr. High!!!!
