4A - WEEK of SEPTEMBER 17 - 21

SPECIAL THANK YOU TO YOU: Mrs. Kenney and I wish to express our thanks to you for the GREAT turnout at curriculum night. We are also impressed with the number of parents who check-in with the BLOG and use e-mail. Communication is the KEy to our success as a team (you, your child and us).

.

MARSHMELLOW and SUGAR: Each Friday a girl student is selected to take home Marshmellow (stuffed Bichon Frise) and a boy student is selected to take home Sugar (stuffed bear) for the weekend. We have some great laughs the following Monday hearing all the activities each stuffed animal did over the weekend.
.

INCOMPLETE WORK: We do not accept incomplete work. When this happens a pink slip is attached to the paper. Some students are returning the pink slip with the parent’s signature, but with NO complete work. The work must be completed and returned at the same time as the parent signature is returned.

.

SWITCH DAY: Each Friday students find a new place in class to eat lunch. So far it has been a “winner.” Hurrah!!!
.

MUSIC: Mr. Watson continues to work with music students using their recorders previously purchased in 3RD GRADE.. Some students have not brought their recorders to music class, but expressed an interest in purchasing a new one. If your student needs to purchase a new recorder, then send a note to Mr. Watson expressing your interest. I do not know the cost. Remember students are expected to be prepared for class and grades are earned on the report card.

.

RELIGION: Getting familiar with parts of the Bible has been the goal of our Bible Trivia exercise. This week we get ready for a test on Chapter 2. It focuses on the meaning of the covenant and God’s faithfulness to us. Remember to study the Chapter 2 vocabulary words.
.

SCIENCE: This week we continue our study of air pressure, describing its relationship with buoyancy and identifying different ways wind energy can be put to use. Did you know Torrecelli accidentally discovered air pressure? Some students took the extra credit challenge to research other inventions discovered accidentally like cocoa cola, slinky, potatoe chips, penicillin, silly putty, sandwiches, etc.

.

SOCIAL STUDIES: We conclude Chapter 1 with a test on Friday. This week students describe the differences between natural resources, renewable resources, and nonrenewable resources with an emphasis of using these resources wisely. Students will be reminded to take home their social studies spirals, remove notes for Chapter 1, staple notes together, get a parent signature, and return notes at the time they take the test to earn possible extra credit points on the test..
