3A - Week of August 27-31

As you can see I title my blog posts by week. I will update the blog every weekend with information about the upcoming week.

This week we will begin our first chapter in Religion and Science. We will continue in our English book with Unit 1 which we began already last week. In Handwriting we are working on our basic strokes and will begin to take a look at one lower case letter a day. In Writing last week the children made sunflower glyphs and wrote about their sunflower. They also wrote about their first day of third grade which is the first piece of writing for their scrapbooks this year. This week everyone will have the opportunity to write about their summer and do their final copy on a “tee”rrific t-shirt that we will hang in our classroom.

We will do some reviewing and assessing in Reading and Math to see what we remember from second grade.

As I mentioned in last week’s blog, by Tuesday, September 4, we will be in full swing.

This week we will begin to use our assignment notebook. We will practice getting in the date and writing down our work. Students should put a check mark next to work that they have completed in school. Some assignments that are not completed in school will be homework. The children will begin to learn that it is their responsibility to show your their planner every night and then have you sign it. I will look at our planners every morning to make sure they have been signed. I will place a stamp next to the signature daily. Please help your child with this for the first week or two until they have established a routine with you.

I look forward to our first full week. We will continue to get to know each other, share summer stories, and begin to dig into our third grade curriculum.

Don’t forget to pack your child a healthy snack. They need the energy to fuel themselves through our busy morning.

Have a great week!
