3A Ms. Brown May 21-June 5

Well, hard to believe but I am writing my last post to third grade parents for the year. Where did the time go? For me I feel like I blinked, turned around, and the year was over. The children however may feel differently. They have worked very hard and developed many new skills. Please allow them time over the summer to read every day for about 20 minutes, maybe do some writing (journaling?), and try to find places where math enters into our daily lives (the grocery store, measuring in the kitchen….)

For the last weeks of school some important dates:

This week in Science we will play a game on Monday to review the quarter’s concepts. On Tuesday 3A and 3B students will both finally make sun-dials. On Wednesday, May 23 3B students will take a Science test and on Thursday view a video on space exploration. Thursday is the last day for Science. Moon calendars due Thursday as well.

In Religion we will learn about the Sorrowful and Glorious Mysteries this week. Next week we will make liturgical calendars.

In Reading the Warriors will take their final test of the year on Friday, May 25. The Wizards and Champions are working on plays that they will perform for their classmates next week. I am reading a historical fiction book aloud to them called Number the Stars, a story of friendship between two young girls during World War II. Independently they have the choice of Reading Socks or Jack Russell Dog Detective. They will discuss the books in a book club format.

In Writing we wrote thank you letters to the Lisle Heritage Society for our awesome field trip and drew pictures to send along too. For scrapbook writing we will be writing about third grade field trips and memories.

In Math the Diamonds have finished up decimals, fractions, and multiplication of larger numbers. We will spend the last two weeks on problem solving and division with remainders. The Blue Diamonds have finished with their division and multiplication review. We will spend the next two weeks working  with geometry, addition and subtraction of fractions, and problem solving.

This week Arts Alive on Thursday.

Next week our field trip to the Adler Planetarium on Tuesday, May 29. Remember to pack a disposable lunch for your child. Also, this is an out of uniform day again for third grade. Parents who are chaperones please be in the classroom at 8A.M. as our busses leave at 8:15 sharp.

June 1: D.E.A.R.(drop everything and read) Time in the afternoon

Picnic day June 4!

Promotion day June 5!

It has been an absolute pleasure to spend my days with your children. I honestly can’t imagine having any other profession. My days are filled with all of the joys that childhood brings; running, playing at recess, laughing and giggling, helping each other, trying your best, being friends, learning, asking questions …the list goes on and on. The children have truly worked hard this year and have changed so much in so many ways since the end of August. They should all be proud of their efforts and accomplishments. They should be most proud of the way they treat each other every day—truly with kind hearts. Thank you for all you do to send your children to school as eager and ready learners. Your support and encouragement throughout the school year is greatly appreciated and valued. I hope all of you have the opportunity to slow down the pace and enjoy your wonderful children this summer. May your days be filled with all the joys that summer brings!
