3A Ms. Brown Week of April 2-5

Welcome back from spring break! Hopefully everyone is well rested and ready for the fourth quarter.

This week we only have 4 days of school as we begin Holy Week and learn about the Easter Triduum. We will discuss this in Religion this week and also work on Chapter 19. We will take the Chapter 19 test on Tuesday, April 10. We will also learn a bit about church history this week. Every table will be assigned a person or church topic. We will do our research in class and I will supply each table with a poster board. Next week the tables will present their topic and poster to the class which will identify their topic and important information.

In Writing our narratives are done this week! We will listen to a story that is a good example of compare and contrast writing. Everyone will select a friend to write about and use a Venn diagram to organize their thoughts. Then, everyone will write their own compare and contrast story. Also, April is poetry month so we will have some fun with poetry the rest of the month.

In English we begin Unit 8 which starts with a review of subjects and predicates. The new content in this unit will be adverbs. Upon completion of the unit we will spend a lot of time in May using our learned skills in grammar and seeing how well we can apply them to our writing. We will also work on our writing trait of voice this quarter.

In Math the Blue Diamonds continue on with graphing and multiplication of larger numbers. The Diamonds will be working on geometry.

In Science 3B students will begin to learn about the planets this week. We will have a brief introductory video on Monday. On Tuesday we will take a closer look at the solar system on our overhead and learn what it takes to be considered a planet. We will also put our planets in order and every table will be assigned the planet that they will begin to research  and make. (On Tuesday April 10 and Thursday April 12 3B students will need to have a large old shirt in school that will cover their uniform as we will be making and painting our planets on those 2 days.)3A students will still get to make sundials. We didn’t have a nice sunny Tuesday last quarter (our best day due to our schedule) but I am sure we will this quarter.

On Tuesday morning we will see the Living Stations of the Cross. This is a nice way for us to commemorate the events of Holy Week and will also give us time to reflect on Jesus’ journey to the cross.

It will be good to see everyone on Monday rested and ready to go. See you next week.
