Mrs. Kolar - Kindergarten
Published by Mrs. Kolar (K) January 21st, 2007 in Announcements. In math, we have studied so many things over the past month! We can count and read numbers to fifty. For the third quarter, our goal is to reach seventy-five. Have you heard your child sing the songs to help us describe shapes? During Advent, we sang the “Twelve Days of Christmas” to help us learn to count with ordinal numbers. This song also helps us to count backwards. We decorated “gingerbread angels” to practice our addition. In the computer lab, we have had several opportunities to grow in our math skills. We are just starting to skip count by twos, fives, and tens. Our latest graph will tell us about what we like to do in the snow. Please come and see our shape and patterning snowflakes we prepared for Open House during Catholic Schools Week.
Don’t forget to read from the “bag of books” each night. The children are really enjoying their new skills. Someone is always telling me about something new they have read. If they are not telling me about a new book, then they are sharing a new word they have learned to spell.
I am proud of our little ones not only for their academic growth, but for their growth as Catholic Christians. I have watched them grow in their short meditations during prayers and for their concern for others. Some of you have shared stories with me about the way you have noticed their faith growth at home. Those are the stories I treasure the most.
Remember to put February 1st on your calendar for Open House. Catholic Schools Week will start off with a special Mass at 11:30 on Sunday, January 28th. Your child will enjoy sharing that Mass with you and their friends.
Saint Valentine’s Day is not too far away! The children are welcome to share Valentine cards with their classmates. If they choose to share, don’t put any names on the envelopes. Just be sure there is one for every classmate. Please save a shoe box and an assortment of creative supplies (wrapping paper, paper doilies, ribbon, stickers, plastic jewels, sequins, pictures, etc.) to decorate Valentine boxes for our cards. Our fifth grade buddies will help us decorate our boxes. We will later let you know the date for bringing in those things.
100 Day is coming! If possible, pleased save one or two cans of any type of food to donate for the hungry. If you are not able to help at this time, we understand. We will try to collect about 100 cans.
If your child has not begun to tie shoes, it is time to begin.
Remember to send boots, mittens, snow pants, and hats for recess. Remember to have them practice dressing at home.
Thank you for sharing your lives with me. You are beautiful blessings!
