Mrs. Brown - 3A January 22-26
Published by Ms. Brown (3A) January 19th, 2007 in Announcements.Another productive week and very exciting too! We began our third quarter Science unit on space and are having a lot of fun with it. Your child should be able to tell you the three conditions necessary to be considered a planet. They can also tell you why Pluto is now considered a dwarf planet. They also know the order of the planets from the sun. (My very excellent mother just served us nachos.) On Monday every table will randomly select a planet and begin to research important and fun facts about their planet. On Tuesday we will make our planets, Wednesday will be another research day, and on Thursday we will paint our planets! The planets and reports will be on display for all to see during Catholic Schools Week. During that week each table will “teach” the class about their planet. Then onto the moon and sun! Please notice the reminder in your child’s planner to have an old shirt to paint in at school by Tuesday, January 23. A plastic bag to put it in may be a good idea too. The paint shirts will be in school for a couple of weeks because of some messy (but fun) projects.
In English we begin Unit 6 and the study of more verbs. In Creative Writing we have worked on another narrative, our scrapbooks, and poetry.
In Religion this week we will spend some time expanding on the theme of Chapter 13- the law of love: the Ten Commandments and the Beatitudes. We will examine the Beatitudes more closely and do a project to go along with it. Next week we will move onto Chapter 14 and virtues.
In Reading the Wizards will take the Book 2 Unit 3 test on Thursday, January 25. They will move into the next book on January 29.
The Blue Diamonds are bravely tackling division with remainders! We will practice, practice, practice! The Diamonds will be enjoying bar graphs and pictographs this week. They will work on the first Chapter 7 checkpoint on Thursday, January 25.Both groups please continue to practice those math facts!
In Spanish our assignment due Friday, January 26 is pages 21-22.
Accelerated Reader goal for third quarter is 4 passed quizzes! Keep up the good work!
Our cursive handwriting is looking very nice. Practice makes perfect so we are producing as much of our daily work in cursive as we can. Practice at home too!
Some fun things this week: Thursday, January 25 Arts Alive and on Friday, January 26 all third graders will meet with their 8th grade buddies after mass to work on the buddy book project. Then in the afternoon we will all have fun working on a February Catholic Faith in Action project.
We will be busy learning and having some fun doing it this week! I can’t wait. Hope you have a great weekend! See you next week!
